Atomic Ayoob Workshop
We had a very slimy time when we were treated to a workshop with Atomic Ayoob. Learning about how adding different chemicals can change the consistency of a mixture, we created our own slime and watched as it went from liquid to solid and back again as we added different ingredients.
Year 6 have been analysing a narrative poem written by Alfred Noyes called 'The Highwayman'. Set in 18th century England, the poem tells the tale of thief and his love, Bess. Using archaic language, it was a challenge to interpret and we began the week by unpicking each stanza to decipher the hidden emotions, actions and thoughts of each character. It gave us a fantastic insight into the poem.
Super Sour Sherbet
Whilst learning about chemical reactions, we also created our own super sour sherbet using citric acid. Some of us found that we have very sensitive taste buds 🤯😖😆
We enjoyed attending a music masterclass at Dame Allan's school in Newcastle.
We have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about what a scientist is and what they do. We have even been doing some of our own experiments in class! The children have been very engaged and have really enjoyed carrying out the different challenges.
North East's Mini-Medics
We were visited again by the North East's Mini-Medics and were taught the basics of CPR. Using the song 'Staying Alive' to help with our rhythm we practised giving chest 30 chest compressions and even learnt about how defibrillators can save a life too.
