VE Day - 80
We marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a wonderful red, white and blue-themed celebration. Our day began with a special assembly, where I shared photographs of old Sunderland and spoke about the impact of the war on our city. The children particularly enjoyed watching footage of the celebrations on Fawcett Street.
At midday, the entire school — from Reception to Year 6 — took part in a beautifully observed two-minute silence. We then learnt the words to We’ll Meet Again, adding to the sense of remembrance and unity.
Although the sun didn’t shine, it didn’t dampen our spirits! Lunchtime was filled with smiles as we held a joyful picnic, echoing the celebrations of 80 years ago at the end of the war in Europe.
Thank you for your wonderful support today. We are so proud to have a school full of children who truly remembered and respected the past.
