World book day

World Book Day - Wednesday 25th April 2018

This year World Book Day will be celebrated in school on Wednesday 25th April 2018.

Reading is something that we really value at Thorney Close Primary School and we understand the importance of children developing a love for reading. We plan to promote reading by having a fun filled exciting reading day in school.

Children are invited to come into school on this day dressed as a character from a book. We will be taking part in reading related activities throughout the school day and children will also have the opportunity to share their favourite book with others (children to bring this into school).

We are also very excited to welcome back poet Ian Bland into school to celebrate with us. Ian worked with us last year – this day was a great success and a lot of fun! Writing and performing high quality poetry is a real and valuable skill well within reach of all children in primary schools. Inviting a professional children’s poet to work in school can be a fantastic opportunity for children and teachers alike and we are really excited by this opportunity.

Ian will be holding an assembly at 9:00am. Parents are welcome to attend this as this is also an opportunity for you to see the children dressed up as they parade their world book day costumes. Please feel free to join in with the fun and come dressed up too!

Ian will be delivering poetry workshops with the children throughout the day and then will end the day with a further assembly to showcase some of the children’s work from the day. This assembly will take place at 2:50pm so please come along to support the children. At the end of the school day Ian will also be selling copies of his poetry books.

We look forward to celebrating World Book day with you.
