Sports Premium
What is PE and Sport Premium for Primary Schools?
The government continues to provide additional funding to enhance physical education and sports programs in primary schools. At Primary School, our goal is to nurture minds, promote healthy bodies, and encourage positive attitudes towards lifelong physical activity, fitness, and sports skills. This funding is ring-fenced, meaning it must be used exclusively for PE and sports provision within the school.

How will we invest this at Thorney Close Primary School?
At our school, we have developed a strategic provision plan to ensure that this funding is invested rather than simply spent, maximising the long-term impact on PE for both pupils and staff. The funding is allocated in various areas, and the effectiveness of these initiatives is carefully monitored through assessments of children’s skills, feedback from staff and pupils, and participation in clubs.
Schools will prioritise the use of PE and sport premium funding to improve in the following five key areas:
- Enhancing the confidence, knowledge, and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
- Increasing the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sports.
- Elevating the profile of PE and sport across the school to support overall school improvement.
- Providing a broader, more inclusive experience of a wide range of sports and physical activities for all pupils.
- Boosting participation in competitive sports.
