Spruce Class 2024-2025
Take a look below at our wonderful learning, visits and experiences.
Pictures will be added throughout the 2024-2025 academic year.
In French, we started our new topic 'En Classe'. We looked at some of the different items we might find in the classroom and tried to match the picture to the French word!
In Geography, we have started our new topic. We started off talking about the different continents before focusing on Europe. We discussed what some countries are known for before drawing our own map of Europe!
In English, we have been thinking about debates. We had a debate for Cats and Dogs. Everyone decided whether they were cats or dogs and wrote some paragraphs explaining why their choice was correct. There were some excellent points made!
In DT, we were doing some biscuit tasting as part of our new topic. We tried four different types of biscuits and had to think about the appearance, texture, smell and packaging for each one.
After lunch, we went down onto the beach and headed out to the rock pools. We searched for crabs and other creatures!
Our trip this morning started with a lovely walk in the sunshine all the way along the river. We were very fortunate to be given the chance to look at a lifeboat and get inside it!
Today we completed our unit of work on sound by making our own instruments in our science lesson. We made water flutes, hosepipe horns and tissue kazoos. Well done Year 3/4, what a great way to finish a topic!
Yesterday afternoon, we had a real treat of doing yoga outside! Well done everyone for great listening and participation.
In English, we have been writing a short explanation text about how to care for a dog. This is linking to our class text Woof!
We have had such a fun computing lesson this afternoon. We used the Pro-Bots cars for the first time. We tried to draw different shapes using commands!
This afternoon, we went on a walk to a different part of the river in the lovely sunshine. Whilst there, we collected data, including the width and depth of the river as well as its speed!
Our first activity on our trip this morning was looking at creatures found in the river! We learnt about some of the different creatures before trying to separate the different creatures in trays.
In English, we have written a setting description from the book 'The Snail and The Whale'. I was impressed with the descriptions, we have even been incorporating some similes and onomatopoeia. Well done Spruce!
This afternoon, we learned that sound travels in waves through air particles which makes them vibrate. We also found out it travels through solid objects so we made string telephones and tested them out!
We have had a great Red Nose Day! Check out our lovely 80's themed costumes.
We had an amazing World Book Day! We read some books to Miss Marrs' class and had some juice and biscuits in the sunshine.
Today, we had a visitor come in to do art with us! We did some print making using polystyrene and talked about Chinese New Year.
This afternoon, we had PE with Craig. We warmed up with a game of dishes and domes before moving onto dodgeball with a twist!
This afternoon, we were introduced to handball. We also did Yoga to calm us and focused on mindfulness. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed it!
This morning in Music, we have been looking at how different instruments, rhythms and pitches can change the way a piece of music sounds. We also had a go at playing a rhythm that Jen gave us!
In Maths, we have been practising our times tables. We played some times table games and times table bingo independently!
In Geography, we have been looking at plate margins and how earthquakes are formed! We have drawn the different margins and written about each one.
In Music, we have been practicing our hand position when playing the piano! We had a go at playing 5 notes to prepare us for having a go at hot cross buns.
Continuing on with Kerry, the artist visiting our school, we used mirrors to observe ourselves, which helped us with our self-portrait drawings.
We were very fortunate to have an artist named Kerry come in today. We started with some quick sketches to warm up (check out our models)! After that, we tried our hand at drawing self-portraits.
This week in writing, we researched, planned, and wrote a non-chronological report about lions. The children were proud of their work and gained new knowledge about lions as well!
We worked hard on writing a debate titled 'Are circuses cruel?' and came up with compelling arguments both for and against.
In Music, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to try out our new keyboards. We also spent time identifying the various instruments heard in different songs.
The weather wasn’t on our side, so we had to stay indoors for PE. However, we turned it into a positive by practicing our throwing skills through fun teamwork games in the hall. Despite the rain, we made the most of it and had a fantastic lesson!
In English, we have been looking at the features of persuasive letters and had a go at identifying some. We have then began planning our own persuasive letter. We are going to be convincing dad from the Butterfly Lion why they should keep the lion cub.
In Science, we’ve been working on creating circuits. We discussed the components needed to build a circuit and then tried making our own to light up a bulb and sound a buzzer.
We've had a wonderful afternoon outdoors in the sunshine for PE. We played various teamwork games with Craig, form The Foundation of Light, and everyone put in their best effort.
In music class, we discussed the different families of instruments, then learned a song about the String and Brass families.
As part of our History topic on the Romans, we arranged various events from the Roman era in chronological order. Afterward, we selected the events we believed were the most significant.
