Spring Flowers and Growing Seeds

In Science, we explored spring flowers and learned about their colours, shapes, and sizes. 🌸
We planted our own cress seeds and are caring for them each day as we watch them grow. 🌱

Exploring Tens and Ones

Today in Maths, we explored tens and ones by using dienes to build different numbers with a partner.
The children worked brilliantly together and showed great understanding—fantastic work everyone.

Exploring Animal Groups

The children continued learning about animal groups, focusing on birds and their characteristics through fun activities and a classroom hunt.
They showed great thinking and teamwork when sorting animals and playing a guessing game—well done everyone!

DT: Exploring Wheels and Axles

The children have begun learning about mechanisms by building model cars and exploring how wheels and axles work together.
They showed great creativity and problem-solving, and are excited to design and make their own moving toy cars!

Exploring Our Local Area

Today we enjoyed a lovely walk around our local area, spotting lots of interesting places and talking with our partners about what we could see. We discussed whether the things we noticed were human or physical features and shared some fantastic ideas.

The children were very sensible when practising how to cross the road safely, and as a special treat we enjoyed some cookies back at school after our wonderful walk!

Sycamore Class Attendance Champions!

Last week, Sycamore Class achieved the highest attendance in the whole school with an amazing 97%, and we were incredibly proud of this fantastic achievement. On Monday, we picked a class prize from the attendance draw and were delighted to win extra playtime. The children chose to save their prize for a day of their choice, showing great patience and teamwork.

Fantastic Attendance Reward!

Last week, Sycamore Class and Fir Class had the best attendance in the whole school! As a reward, we enjoyed some special time together playing fun games in our classroom.

We had a fantastic afternoon playing musical statues, musical bumps, and head down, thumbs up. The children loved showing off their dance moves and had so much fun together!

In Sycamore, children learned about 2D shapes, exploring their names and features using mathematical language. They also practised sorting shapes in different ways, such as by type or number of sides and corners.

Autumn

we have started learning about the seasons in science, beginning with autumn. We talked about what happens during each season and focused on the changes we can see in autumn. The children enjoyed the autumn walk around our school grounds. We spotted trees changing colour, collected different coloured leaves and crunched in the fallen leaves. We noticed the apple and berry trees.

Human and Physical Features

We have started learning about human and physical features. Our first step was to look at a map of the school grounds and identify the features we could find. Together, we discussed what human and physical features mean and sorted different examples into each category. Afterwards, we went outside to explore the school grounds. In pairs, the children carefully searched for various features, decided whether they were human or physical, and recorded their findings on their sheets. The children really enjoyed being little geographers and discovering the different features all around them.

Toys Over Time

In class, we have been exploring how toys have changed over time. First, the children sorted a selection of toys into old and new, thinking carefully about the differences between them. Next, they examined the materials the toys were made from and grouped them accordingly. Through this, they discovered that older toys were often made from wood or metal, while newer toys are usually made from plastic or include electronic components. This helped them understand how advances in materials have influenced the way toys are made over time.

'Catch it, bin it, kill it'

We had a special visit from Maria, our School Nurse, who came to talk to the children about the importance of handwashing. She gave a fun, practical demonstration of the correct way to wash their hands and explained how this helps to stop germs from spreading. The children also learned the 'catch it, bin it, kill it' approach when using a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes. Together, we talked about how quickly germs can spread if we don’t cover our noses and mouths, and the children enjoyed practising these healthy habits.

Artists

In Art, we have been experimenting with a variety of tools to create imaginative patterns. The children have also been building confidence in their colour mixing skills.

The Traffic Light Game

In PE, the children started by warming up with a variety of movements before playing the traffic light cone game and stuck in the mud. They also practised their throwing skills by aiming beanbags into hoops. The session was full of energy, teamwork, and lots of smiles all around!

Colour Wheels

We went to the art room to explore colour mixing and create our own colour wheels. The children experimented with primary colours and discovered how mixing them can create new colours.

Toys

We’ve started our exciting new history topic all about toys! The children began by carefully examining their own toys, thinking about their appearance and the materials they are made from. They were then shown some toys that are over 75 years old, and were fascinated by how different they looked compared to the toys they know today. As a class, we discussed the differences between toys from the past and those used today. To finish the activity, the children drew a picture of their own toy and wrote a sentence describing what it is and what it is made from.

Mozart

In music with Les, we’ve been learning all about the composer Mozart. We had lots of fun dancing with scarves to his music! We've also been exploring the concept of tempo and discovering what it means through movement and rhythm.

Technology

We had our first computing lesson of the academic year with Mrs Holmes! We started with a discussion about what ‘technology’ means, then worked together to sort pictures into groups—those that show technology and those that don’t.

Plant Detectives

In Science, we became plant detectives! First, we talked about the plants we already knew and looked at pictures to see if we could name them. Then, we explored the school grounds and spotted lots of different plants.

Colour Mixing

In Sycamore Class, the children have been exploring colour mixing using pens, crayons, and coloured cellophane. They investigated how primary colours change when combined and made lots of exciting discoveries along the way!

PE with Craig from SAFC

The children had an amazing time in PE with Craig from SAFC! The children put great effort into developing their skills, showed brilliant teamwork, and had loads of fun staying active through exciting games and challenges.

Self Portraits

During our art session, we had lots of fun drawing our self-portraits! The children showed great care and attention, observing their features closely and adding plenty of detail to their work.

Maths Detectives

We became maths detectives! Our mission was to search around the classroom for hidden shapes. Each shape had a set of three numbers, and once we found one, we had to figure out and write the next three numbers in the sequence. We showed great focus and problem-solving skills—what brilliant mathematicians we are!
