  • Friday 20 June 2025 Attendance 20.6.25 Unfortunately, we're disappointed with our overall school attendance figure this week, as it falls below our expected standard. However, well done to Spruce and Hazel classes, who met or exceeded our 96% target—great effort!
  • Friday 23 May 2025 Attendance 23.5.25 This week, attendance across most of the school has been excellent, with many classes exceeding our target of 96%. This is a fantastic achievement for the final week of the half term.

  • Friday 20 September 2024 Attendance School attendance this week has fallen to 93.5%. Unfortunately, the first fixed penalty notice letters have been issued in accordance with City of Sunderland guidelines. This follows a national directive, which does not permit holidays during term time. Please also note that accumulating five days of unauthorised absences, even if spread over several weeks, within a 10-week period will also lead to a fixed penalty notice.   • Monday 10 October 2022 Attendance Matters A big thank you to the vast majority of parents who make sure their children attend school regularly and on time! There is a proven link between excellent attendance and good exam success and equally a correlation between poor attendance and lower exam grades.This year the Department for Education is tackling attendance head on, in order to ensure that children do not lose any more time from school following the pandemic. Schools across the country have been given very specific direction to improve attendance rates to at least 97% and lower the rates of persistent absenteeism. Sunderland City Council have issued newly updated letters which we will send out accordingly in line with all other schools.This academic year Thorney Close Primary school is going full steam ahead to work with parents and pupils to ensure we meet the DfE expectation of 97% or above for overall attendance and reduce absenteeism to below pre pandemic data.However, we cannot do this alone, we need the support from
